History and natural beauty

The Portuguese Island of Madeira, also known as the “Pearl of the Atlantic”, is located in the Atlantic Ocean 600 km from Morocco and only 1.5 hours away from Lisbon by plane. The capital is Funchal. The islands of the Madeiran archipelago are home to four nature reserves that support exotic and endangered species of both animals and plants. Miles of mountain trails and levadas await the adventurous traveller, and beautiful scenic walks throughout the island as well as local attractions allow for leisurely exploration.
